“1 Corinthians 6:17”
God desires for His children to be one with Him. He wants them to have an intimate relationship with Him such that there would be nothing at all between them and Him. Anyone who is one with the Lord will put God first in all decisions that he or she makes. Furthermore, the fellow will trust in the Lord with all of his or her heart and acknowledge Him in all of his or her ways (Proverbs 3:5-6).
People who are one with God enjoy the fullness of His blessings and favour, and you can be one with Him by abiding in Him. Abiding in God simply means making His word your topmost priority. As a believer, you are a soldier of Christ, and no soldier is allowed to disobey the words of his commander on a battlefield. Soldiers who disobey the words of their commander do so at their own detriment. John 15:7 says that if you abide in God and His words abide in you, you will ask what you want, and it shall be done for you. When you esteem God’s word above your necessary food, as Job said in Job 23:12, you will surmount anything the enemy brings against you. When you truly walk with the Lord, your ways will be pleasing to Him, and He will make your enemies be at peace with you (Proverbs 16:7). He will cause everything in existence to cooperate with you, even nature, like He did for Joshua in Joshua 10:1-14. One with God is the majority; once He is on your side, no challenge or opposition will be able to overcome you.
In John 15:10, Jesus said that if you keep His commandments, you will abide in His love. He also said that you will be His friend if you do whatsoever He commands you (John 15:14). Being a friend of God is one of the highest positions anyone can ever attain with the Lord. When you are His friend, He will share secrets with you and He will make the things He wants to do known to you (John 15:15). He will also open up His heart to you.
Beloved, God wants you to be one with Him so that you can enjoy all the blessings He has in store for you. Will you accept His invitation to abide in Him?
